Why use a professional Drone pilot for photography

Most Drone technology today like a standard camera available can shoot photos in two formats - RAW and JPEG.

For DGI Drones (one market leader) this file format is called DNG.

There's a widespread debate about which format is best to use, and many people have shared their opinions. There's a need to be subjective about this question and learn the differences.

Instead of asking which option is the best, you should be asking which image format is suitable for you and why?. To help you efficiently answer this question, I can assist in assessing your needs;

  • Website - Typical for is JPEG at 72 dpi (any larger that 72 dpi is an accepted best performance for most websites, however receiving such a photo image may make you happy, but what happens when you deicide to take that photo you had off your PC and to a print shop to create a hardcopy?

  • For Print - You have 2 further choices
  • Have me produce the prints to the size you wish as a JPEG file (which should be 300dpi)
  • Have me provide you with the RAW (.DNG) file which can be utilised by either yourself should you have the appropriate software tools to convert RAW to JPEG of your selected size.

  • What about other formats? TIFF, PNG etc... should you require these at a later date for different objectives, such as using the photos you have paid for in a mailing Word document or .pdf.

  • You could be told that today there are a lot of software tools FREE OF CHARGE on the internet that will allow you to take a Drone RAW file and convert it into the format you need. This however isn't always as simple with todays Free licenses. For example DGI RAW formats specify the Camera lens like any photo, but many of the free applications only support standard camera formats, so while you will be able to export your image from RAW to JPEG you will have a photo with a "fish bowl" affect.

The answer is actually quite simple, you need to ensure that;

  1. You are buying a service that you want, and the company selling you that service can ensure your full needs are met.
  2. Don't go for a hobby drone enthusiast, there are multiple reason for this and the output provided to you is just one important reason. after you have paid for your images you may find yourself having to pay for further services from an expert who can correct their mistakes.

Ensuring your Drone Service provider is operating safely. 4DS Drone Services operate under a Specific catagory - CAA GVC Qualification . Qualifications . All commercial drone operators require some form of qualification to operate legally. The so-called A2 Certificate of Competency (A2 C of C) is really the entry level and indicates a pilot understands the basics of aviation law and how to fly a drone safely. The more advanced CAA GVC qualification allows an operator to fly larger drones in built-up areas. For some types of work the latter is essential, so check when you make contact with an operator. "You will find operators specifying they will take the Job on but provide certain caveats. Thats fine, however make sure you are NOT paying a deposit upfront."
